Concert Recap

Wednesday night Jade and I attended Zack Tilley's concert at the Lexington Civic Center. On the bill for the night was Austin Simmons, Zack Tilley, The Kin, and Ryan Cabrera

I had a great time filming Zack's performance, and following him backstage as he interacted with the rest of the guys. Brad Carrick joined Zack on stage and balanced the harmony while shredding the acoustic guitar. Brad is incredibly talented with running sound, and playing just about every instrument he gets his hands on.

Austin Simmons put on a great acoustic set. I really like his music, but when I first saw him I was expecting something more emo...pleasantly surprised.

I have fallen for the music produced by The Kin. Are you kidding me with those vocals!?! And their harmony!?! These Aussies are phenomenal!

Ryan Cabrera put on a good show, playing current stuff, radio hits, and offering funny stories in between. I think I found the inspiration for Zack's hair.

COOLEST KID AWARD goes to Isaac Koren of The Kin. Not only was he the only kid I could look in the eyes (literally), but he was also very obliging to conversation, filming, and pictures.

GLAD I'M NOT IN YOUR SHOES AWARD goes to the sound guy...let's just say he had a tough night eliminating the feedback for ALL the performers.

WISH I COULD HAVE GOT THAT ON TAPE MOMENT happened at the end of the concert when Ryan Cabrera launched a cake mid-chorus "Tell It Like It Is" right in the face of Isaac Koren to wish him a Happy Birthday. Isaac took off chasing Ryan around the stage...Here's a pic from @Ryan_Cabrera (that's me to the right holding the camera).

Here's a quick recap for all the no-shows!!

Lessons in Success from the Comeback King

George Foreman is respected worldwide as both a legendary boxing champion - and an entrepreneurial genius. Now he speaks to audiences around the nation sharing the competitive secrets of unstoppable champions.

  • Be the Best!

"Before I was a boxer, I was a dishwasher. I was great! I was the best dishwasher ever. I'd get through doing my job; my dishes were so nice and clean...so I'd mop the floors. I out-mopped the floor mopper. Then I would help the cooks peel the potatoes. I was the best there was. Now that's the way I feel about selling!"

  • Love Your Product!

"You can't go to someone's door selling Avon and smelling like Giorgio! You've got to use the product!"

  • Play Up Your Strengths!

"In 1977 I left boxing. I was born against. I didn't want to be known as that big bad George Foreman. I wanted to be known as George the Evangelist. So I started preaching on street corners. Forget that big bad boxer, that brute! I would preach on the streeet, and people would pass me by like a freight train with a hobo. So one day I decided I was going to try something. I said, 'This is George Foreman, the ex-Heavyweight Champion of the World! I fought Muhammad Ali, but now I'm fighting the devil!' The crowd stopped. They came closer and listened. Soon there were so many people the police started getting converned!"

  • Keep Your Sense of Humor!

"I have five boys, and they are all named George. If you want to be a good boxer, you've got to make preparations for the memory loss! Sometimes after a boxing match, I can't even remember my own name!"

  • Don't Pay Attention to Criticism!

"When I told people I was going back into boxing at 40, they laughed. Reporters would call me on the telephone, laughing. 'George, we hear you are going back to boxing.' They would laugh at me. I kept training."

  • Keep Your Eye On The Prize!

"I said, 'I'm going to be Heavyweight Champion of the World again. And I am going to be rich and famous. And do you know why? Because God is going to help me do it. Then in 1994, I became Heavyweight Champion of the World, twenty years after I lost the title to Muhammad Ali. I put my eye on the prize, and I never took it off."

The Courage To Succeed

According to his website, Ruben Gonzalez competed in three winter Olympics in three different decades in the sport of luge. Ruben's incredible story leaves his audiences thinking "If Ruben could make it to three Olympics, then I can do anything." When Ruben competes in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics he will make Olympic history by becoming the first Winter Olympian to compete in four Olympics each in a different decade.

Do you have the courage to succeed? Here is how Ruben answers that question.

Associate With Winners!

Creat your own "Dream Team" of people who believe in you and who will encourage you when you are going through challenges.

The Secret of Success

Success comes down to just four things:

  1. Find an arena you are suited to play in.
  2. Have the courage to take action and get started.
  3. Have the courage to endure, to persevere, to go all the way when the going get tough.
  4. Have the attitude that you're willing to do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to get the job done.

How to Develop the Courage to Take Action

The courage to take action comes from believing something is possible. You can increase your self-belief by the books you read and the people you associate with. The reason constant self-development is so important is that it gets you to believe in yourself.

How to Develop the Courage to Persist

The courage to go all the way comes from your desire. If you want something badly enough, nothing will stop you. And if you don't quit, success is just a matter of time. You can fuel your desire by constantly visualizing your dream and by surrounding yourself with reminders of your dream.

Your Struggles Make You Stronger

Great people were not born great. They became great by having a dream, having the courage to take action, and refusing to quit until they accomplished their dream. It's always: dream, struggle, victory. If you're going through a struggle, don't quit! You're on the way to victory!

You Have What it Takes

God gives you a dream and God gives you all the power, all the resources, and all the gifts you'll need to accomplish your dream. But it won't fall into your lap. It's up to us to get ourselves to believe (to have faith) that we can do it, and once we believe, it's up to us to do the work.

Follow Your Heart

Follow your heart and trust your gut feelings and intuition and you'll never go wrong. Don't ever listen to the dream-stealers.

Take Advantage of Opportunities

Successful people take advantage of opportunities because they know windows of opportunity open and close. They don't wait until conditions are perfect. They trust their inner feelings, have faith, and jump knowing that the net will appear.

Questions For You

  1. When your vision is criticized, what is your normal response? Where do you channel your emotion?
  2. What are the primary criticisms brought against your vision?
  3. Which of these criticisms do you consider valid?
  4. Do you need to revise your plans in light of those criticisms? If so, how?
  5. What helpful information can you glean from your critics?
  6. How have those who are partnering with you been affected by the criticism?
  7. Is it time to recast your vision to the those who may have been affected?
